Anticoagulation UK

About Us

Anticoagulation UK is a charity dedicated to the prevention of thrombosis (blood clots), raising awareness of the risk of blood clots and how to help prevent them by providing information, education and support for patients and healthcare professionals.

Our Aims

The prevention of thrombosis (blood clots)

The provision of information, education and support for patients and healthcare professionals.

The promotion of independence - supporting people to take an active part in their own healthcare and have access to excellent anticoagulation services.

Why is it important?

Simply because thrombosis (blood clots) can cause serious health problems, can lead to long term disability and can be fatal.

In the UK and United States blood clots kill more people each year than breast cancer, motor vehicle accident and AIDS combined.

It is estimated that there are around 1,600 deaths from blood clots in Europe and US per day.

Blood clots are a leading cause of disability and death worldwide.

How can we make a difference?

By working with patients, the NHS, healthcare professionals, government  and industry, we can  work towards ensuring that we have excellent anticoagulation services and help patients to increase their knowledge and understanding of  blood clot risks, the treatments available for clot prevention and  the choice of anticoagulation therapy for their condition.

For people needing long term anticoagulation therapy, we promote independence by encouraging people to take an active part in their own healthcare with the support of their anticoagulation service.
